Today we visited the Arc Academy UK’s training facility at their quarry site in Rhondda Cynon Taff to film the progress of 8 students hand picked from over 200 applicants. This was the start of their 3rd week on a new ‘bootcamp’ style course designed by Arc for people wanting to enter the construction and civil engineering industry. Co-ordinated by Coleg y Cymoedd this course is covering much needed training for groundworkers. It includes practical and theory based subjects such as safe working in excavations, laying drainage and services, excavating foundations, setting out and levelling and plant operation besides much more. Once completed they’ll achieve their CPCS Forward Tipping Dumper and CPCS Ride on Roller qualifications making them job ready. They’re a great team with a lot of enthusiasm and commitment to completing the course. We look forward to catching up with them when they finish in a couple of weeks’ time. Watch this space for an update on what happens next!
