What Is Face Fit Testing?
Face Fit Testing ensures that a tight-fitting mask (RPE) forms a proper seal around the user’s face. A poor seal can allow harmful substances to be inhaled, even if the mask is worn. Testing is a legal requirement under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002.
Who Needs Face Fit Testing?
Anyone who wears tight-fitting RPE in:
- Construction
- Demolition
- Engineering and welding
- Spray painting and decorating
- Quarrying and waste management
- Healthcare and industrial environments
Test Types Offered
- Qualitative Testing (for disposable and half-face masks)
- Uses a bitter or sweet solution
- Suitable for FFP1, FFP2, FFP3, and reusable half masks
- Quantitative Testing (by request)
- More advanced, uses a particle-counting machine
- Recommended for full-face respirators and specialist applications
